Ingredients:

  • 14 oz extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp avocado oil

Instructions:

  1. Pat the pressed tofu cubes dry with a paper towel. In a bowl, toss the cubes with the soy sauce, garlic powder, and paprika until lightly coated.
  2. Sprinkle the cornstarch, salt, and pepper over the marinated tofu. Toss gently until a thin, powdery film covers the cubes, shaking off any excess starch.
  3. Heat the avocado oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers. Add tofu in a single layer with space between each cube.
  4. Sear for 3-4 minutes per side without moving them until a mahogany-colored crust forms. Flip with tongs and repeat until all sides are shattering-crisp.
